Weekly Update – March 5, 2024
Action Figures – Legacy, the first sequel-spinoff from the core Action Figures series, has passed the first draft benchmark!
Draft one currently clocks in at a shade under 70,000 words, and it’s one of the tightest first drafts I’ve ever written, so I expect the first round of revisions to go fairly quickly. However, my editor Julie is wrapping up her work on the current draft of The Adventures of Strongarm & Lightfoot – Draconian Measures, and my cover artist Tricia is fine-tuning her cover design, so my first priority will be finishing work on that project and getting it out to readers, hopefully by the end of April.
One more quick note, and I will be bragging here. On the first day of last week’s promo for the first books in my three series, I cracked a major personal milestone: more than 20,000 copies of my books are out in the world. In business terms you’d call it “units moved”; more than 15,000 are actual cash sales, the rest were picked up as part of various free promotions.
I know there are other indie authors that have sold more books — and this is not an implicit invitation to slip in and boast about how much better you’re doing than I am, BTW — but an important bit of context here: according to various reports and studies, the average indie author never sells more than 100 copies of a single book, and many never sell more than ten. And many trad-pubbed authors only ever see 3,000 sales in their book’s lifetime.
