Don’t Ignore the Short Stuff

When I began writing screenplays about twenty years ago, I wrote features. 120 pages was the goal at the time. Since then, I have completed fifteen feature screenplays ranging from 90-120 pages per script.

I began receiving multiple awards for my features; however, it seemed more directors/producers were entering the business and wanted to begin their careers with shorts. I decided to take the challenge and tell an intriguing story in much fewer pages than a feature. Since then, I have written ten shorts that range from three to fourteen pages.

I love to create story and visualize it in my head as I write. Although, the scripts will probably look a bit different on the screen as the actors, directors, and producers add their creativity to the original works, I look forward to seeing them come alive.

My first screenplay I sold was a short!

Currently, a short and a feature are in production!

Within the past year or so, I have added short story manuscripts to my writing projects. Not only will I be able to see screenplays I have written come to life on a screen, but I will be able to hold a book in my hands as I go on a journey with my characters.

I prefer an actual paperback, but I know the world has turned to e-books as another option. Either way, short stories have their values. If a person doesn’t have time to read a lengthy novel, then a well-written short story might be just the right choice.

God has blessed me with the creation of stories to share with others to encourage, inspire, and entertain!

I have already had one short story included in an anthology, but the publisher only published it for a year. I have submitted another one to a different publisher and am awaiting their response.

In the meantime, I’m writing more short stories!

I still write feature-length screenplays, but I don’t ignore the short stuff!

Readers, I appreciate you! I’ll update you as soon as I have another short story available!

If there are any directors looking for a family-friendly short screenplay, please feel free to send me a message through my contact page or at faithdcox@yahoo.com.

Fellow writers, do you know any publishers accepting short story submissions for anthologies? I’d love to hear about them!
