The Box

Itwas so lovely,

Thewrappings and ribbons,

Agift for no reason

Rightout of the blue.

Insidethe box,

Mygreatest possession,

Agenuine token of

Mylove for you.

It’sonly a ring with one tiny diamond,

Theone that my grandmother wore.

Iknow that she’d want it to rest on your finger

Toshow the whole world you’re the one I adore.

Youwere so gentle unwrapping your treasure,

Sopatient in claiming your prize.

Youopened the box, holding your breath,

Icould see tears welling up in your eyes.

Thenin an instant I’m down on one knee

Askingthe question you knew.

Youanswered softly, without hesitation,

“Yes,Darling, I’ll marry you.”

Asweet precious memory from so long ago

Andthe years have been wondrous since then.

Tothink it all started with one tiny box

Makesme wish we could live it all over again.

Itwas so lovely,

Thewrappings and ribbons,

Agift for no reason

Rightout of the blue….
