Lessons

Idon’t know why I listened to

Thatvoice inside my head.

Itkept telling me to take a chance on you.

It’sa lesson that I learned too late

Tohelp avoid the pain

Andwinding up a broken-hearted fool.

Thereare lessons to be learned,

Bridgesto be burned,

Keysto turn to open every door.

Butsomething in my mind, leaving logic far behind,

Alwayskeeps me coming back for more.

Yousaid it was over,

You’dfound somebody new,

Likeyou did a dozen times before.

Butwhen it didn’t work out,

Andthat one ended, too,

Youcame running back to me and asked for more.

Thereare lessons to be learned,

Bridgesto be burned,

Keysto turn to open every door.

Butsomething in my mind, leaving logic far behind,

Alwayskeeps me coming back for more.

Theremust be some limit to

Whatone poor heart can take and somehow pick itself up off the ground.

SomedayI may find it and

Youshouldn’t be surprised.

You’lllook for me and I won’t be around.

Thereare lessons to be learned,

Bridgesto be burned,

Keysto turn to open every door.

Butsomething in my mind, leaving logic far behind,

Alwayskeeps me coming back for more.
