The Breach is both Thrilling and Intelligent
The Breach is a unique science fiction thriller. Although it's not sci-fi in the traditional sense, it's more steeped in scientific principles more than it is aliens or the future. I purchased the title on my Kindle because of the stellar reviews it had received. This usually isn't what drives me to purchase a book, but The Breach lived up to ever positive thing I read about it.
The plot of this novel is quite complex and neatly woven with reveals coming at all the right times. This keeps the pace of the story just right. The Breach is an action thriller at it's core, but Patrick Lee expresses his intelligent (or very thorough research) with all the scientific information he uses as the backbone of the adventure.
The two main characters are carefully exposed. Travis Chase in particular as his past is unraveled through detailed flashbacks. He's flawed, but driven to do what's right despite his inner conflicts. He is also an analytical mind that has much to offer people whose intelligence far exceeds his own. This gives him value in a shadowy agency that have some of the most intelligent minds in the world. Paige Campbell is the female lead, and she exhibits the right amount of strength and vulnerability. She's a woman who is very smart and well trained.
Lee doesn't waste words or descriptions either. Everything moves as it should with no unnecessary padding. People always says "I couldn't put it down." For me, I don't throw this term out liberally. There are a handful of books that "I couldn't put down" and The Breach is definitely one of them.
I realize I'm a little late to the party. The Breach was released back in 2009 and Lee has released two more books in this series, Ghost Country and Deep Sky, but that's what is great about books. They are forever and it doesn't matter when you find them, they are timeless. Especially when they come in a series. If you jump on a series late, you are now able to read most or all of the titles without having to wait years for the next book (which I plan to do with these titles). For something thrilling and very unique, The Breach is what you're looking for.
