Sneak Peek:
Author’s Note: This article contains spoilers for the original five “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books by Rick Riordan.

The Percy Jackson series, titled “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” is a captivating and popular young adult fantasy adventure written by Rick Riordan. The series consists of six books and follows the adventures of Percy Jackson, a teenage boy who discovers he is a demigod — a half-human, half-Greek god — and the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea. Throughout the series, Percy Jackson grows as a character, forging strong friendships with other demigods like Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. Together, they face formidable enemies, unravel ancient mysteries, and confront their struggles. Rick Riordan’s blending of modern-day settings with Greek mythology creates a thrilling and engaging narrative that captivates readers of all ages. The series has been widely praised for its relatable characters, witty humour, and exploration of friendship, loyalty, and heroism. The success of the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series has led to several spin-off series and adaptations, cementing its place as one of the most beloved and enduring works in contemporary young adult literature

I recently reread “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” for the anticipated release of The Chalice of the Gods. I will admit that I did come out of my reread with mixed feelings. However, The Chalice of the Gods did not disappoint. It had what I thought the original books were missing. We have the charm, the quests, the humour, and the deep friendships. The bones of the original books are still there but are presented in a more grown-up manner. Rick Riordan has truly done an amazing job at aging the characters, while still managing to hold onto the core of the books.

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover thought their quest days were behind them. Annabeth and Percy are preparing to go to university, while Grover is living with the Elders. Percy is at home with his mom and stepdad, enjoying the family meals that he never got to experience as a child. He has the girl of his dreams and his parents love her. Plus, he has not managed to get kicked out of school. School is still rough, but he thinks it’s going okay. This all changes though when Percy is called into the guidance counsellor’s office. For him to get into New Rome University, he must have three letters of recommendation from the gods. He thinks that this is not going to be a problem. After all, he has done so much for them. He is informed that he must complete three quests to get the letters of recommendation.
