My Writing Routine, how to establish one and the routine of famous people!

Writing a book is not for everyone after writing 20+ books you kinda establish a routine when the mood strikes. Lately, I’ve been so tired and adjusting I have written as much but this week and next I can definitely get my writing routine back! I am weird with it since I hand write my books then type. I also outline in a separate journal. I also have a list of books and ideas to write. Another thing that helps me get inspired is tv shows and movies and I read books in the genre I’d like to write.
Heck my routine is wake up, get a red bull, read over the project, catch up on typing and write till I am tired sometimes with a drink in hand, and sometimes with music. I want to do this full time and under my pen name. It is nice getting a fresh start even got the socials for the pen name of course only certain people know. It is nice watching it all grow and I can’t wait to see what is in store. I’ve even put all my books on my Ko-fi shop and do memberships. The hard part isn’t the writing itself it is the marketing and finding a tribe I will one day. Writing is a marathon not a sprint I need to write more books and publish and get my name out there in order to succeed!
How do I establish a writing routine?
Establishing a writing routine is a personal process, and what works for one person may not work for another. However, here are some general steps you can take to establish a writing routine:
Set Clear Goals:Define your writing goals. Whether it’s a daily word count, a set amount of time spent writing, or completing a specific task, having clear goals gives you something to work towards. I do a few pages or more if I’m inspired!
Identify Your Most Productive Time: Figure out when you are most alert and creative during the day. Some people are morning writers, while others are night owls. Schedule your writing sessions during your peak productivity times. I write after work and weekends. Sometimes during work if it is boring!
Create a Dedicated Writing Space: Designate a specific place for writing. It could be a corner of a room, a desk, or even a particular coffee shop. Having a consistent space helps signal to your brain that it’s time to focus on writing. I have a writing desk and my bed sometimes!
Eliminate Distractions: Minimize distractions during your writing time. Turn off social media notifications, silence your phone, and create a quiet environment. Consider using productivity tools or apps to help you stay focused.
Start Small: If you’re new to establishing a writing routine, start with small, achievable goals. It could be writing for 15 or 30 minutes a day. As you build consistency, you can gradually increase the time or word count.
Be Consistent: Consistency is key to forming a routine. Aim to write at the same time and place every day, or on specific days of the week. The more consistent you are, the more likely your routine will become a habit.
Experiment and Adjust: Be willing to experiment with your routine. If your initial plan isn’t working, try adjusting the time, location, or other factors. It may take some trial and error to find what works best for you.
Reward Yourself: Celebrate your achievements, whether it’s reaching a daily word count or completing a chapter. Positive reinforcement can help reinforce the habit and make writing a more enjoyable experience.
Find Accountability: Share your writing goals with a friend, writing group, or accountability partner. Knowing that someone else is aware of your goals can provide motivation and encouragement.
Prioritize Self-Care: Ensure you take care of your physical and mental well-being. A healthy lifestyle contributes to better focus and creativity. Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and take breaks when needed.
Remember that building a writing routine takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself, stay adaptable, and don’t be afraid to make adjustments as needed. The key is to find a routine that aligns with your preferences and allows you to consistently engage with your writing practice.
This is also interesting here are some famous writers writing routines!
Ernest Hemingway: Hemingway was known for his disciplined routine. He would write in the morning, starting early, and continue until he reached a specific word count. He believed in stopping when he knew what would happen next, so he could pick up easily the next day.
Stephen King: King is known for his prolific output and dedication to daily writing. He sets a goal of writing 2,000 words per day and sticks to a routine of writing in the morning. He emphasizes the importance of consistency and perseverance.
Agatha Christie: Christie had a disciplined routine and set a goal for herself to write 1,000 words per day. She preferred to write in the morning and would continue until she reached her daily word count.
Overall, writing is definitely something I’ll do the rest of my life and my goal is a Medium article everyday to get back into the swing of things!
