After Christmas, the baby in the manger matures very fast. He becomes the suffering adult, Nazareno de Quiapo, feted on January 9, then morphs into the cute toddler in heavy clothes, Santo Niño, celebrated in Cebu, Tondo, Pandacan, mendiola, Aklan and elsewhere on the Third Sunday of January.
My Inquirer column today is on the Santo Niño de Cebu and the two stories that link the image to a history that goes back from 1565 to 1521.
