La Mala Suerte Is Following Me by
Ana SiqueiraMy rating:
5 of 5 starsWhen Miguel opens an umbrella in his house and loses his good luck streak, La Mala Suerte is to blame. Bad luck is cleverly illustrated throughout as a dark, ghostly figure. The ending is satisfying and realistic, offering superb examples of strategies kids can use to improve situations, thereby creating good luck. The addition of Spanish words interwoven throughout the story ensures a cultural experience for the reader. I loved the background about the origins of many superstitions, especially the one from Mexico. I think I will carry around an empty suitcase on New Year’s Eve for a new year full of adventures and trips!
