The Unknown Soldier is a profound symbol representing all soldiers who participated in World War 1. The concept, originating from France in 1916, was enacted in 1920 to honor the millions lost in battle. It started with the burial of a randomly selected soldier beneath the Arc de Triomphe. Later, in 1923 an eternal flame was lit to further commemorate this symbol. Despite some disrespect towards the flame over time, it remains rekindled daily, making the site a reminder of the horrors of war and the importance of peace.
