Very Jazzy

‘He had lines, yes, but now I realized they didn’t make him look old. They just made him seem more interesting than any of the guys I knew like he’d been places, seen stuff, done stuff.’ --Lucy Foley, THE PARIS APARTMENT

Gloria and Jack sent us a thoughtful Happy Chanukah card: SPIN...PLAY...CELEBRATE!

Dearest Alan & Michael,

My life would be “incomplete” without you.

Love Always and Forever,

Gloria & Jack

Gloria also remembered that Alan and I had met on November 20th, exactly 8 years ago. It was a very jazzy looking card. It made me want to listen to jazz. We weren’t quite sure what she meant about the human senses but it’s always nice to be reminded of these senses that our species is lucky enough to have.

11/20/97

Dear Alan & Michael!

Happy Anniversary!

There has been so much talk lately about ‘human senses’ and that we sell basing our gifts on SIGHT, SOUND, TOUCH, TASTE and SMELL.

Love Always,

Gloria and Jack

Alan and I saw a few more excellent movies on our Anniversary week:

THE JACKAL –an action crime thriller with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere. I don’t care for Bruce, but I do like Richard Gere, so I was willing to see it. It was about an imprisoned IRA fighter (Richard Gere) who is freed to help stop a faceless assassin from completing his next job.

THE MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL –based on a book I have not read yet that was a dramatic mystery thriller—another genre of film I love besides action crime. A visiting reporter’s assignment suddenly revolves around a murder trial of a local millionaire.

WINGS OF THE DOVE –Helena Bonham Carter stars in this story based on a Henry Jones novel. I always love these period pieces. This was a drama/romance and centered on poverty-stricken woman who is forced to choose between a privileged life with her wealthy aunt or her journalist lover as she befriends an American heiress. The heiress friend is dying and is attracted to her own lover, so she sees a chance to have both a privileged life and the lover she can’t live without. Can she really have her cake and eat it, too? You must watch and see. I can’t spoil it for you!

I loved those ARMIJO group pictures I took near the Hs Lordships Restaurant in Berkeley recently. I sent copies to mom. I really loved the one of mom with her six grandchildren. I hope to take more memorable family pictures at Christmastime when I return to Alameda next month.
