Phyllis Still's journey to becoming an award-winning author began in her childhood, marked by moving between states and escaping into her imagination. After numerous jobs, raising a family, and early retirement, she began writing full-time. Inspired by missing genealogy facts about a heroic relative, she decided to write a fictional account of the story. After professional critiques, rewrites, and learning the craft, her book, "Defiance at Indian Creek", was published and won the Story Circle Network’s Sarton Award for Young Adult Fiction.
