Midway Mark

Looking back over my previous posts, I realize when it comes to writing, most of my attention centers on process instead of product. No surprise there, but I decided to try shifting that slightly.

So, I took a hard look at the scheduling side of setting up my upcoming serialized novel on Kindle Vella. With digital calendar in hand, I came up with a clearer sense of timing. My measuring stick is the number of episodes I need in the bank, so to speak, that are clean enough to put in front of a reader's eyes.

That's where the midway mark comes in. As of now, I'm aiming for 20 out of the total of 43. My thought is I'll release the first four on a Friday in mid- to late-October, then set the timing to release one new episode each Monday & Friday going forward till the last installment launch makes it a wrap sometime in late January 2024. That basically means I'll have nearly a month between that first launch of Episodes 1-4 & Episode 21, which in turn gives me enough writing sessions to make sure all the others are as clean their predecessors, so far as I can manage. That's no small task considering I've been doing all my own editing this round as well—developmental, copy editing, proofreading, fact checking, you name it.

But like all aspects of my self-publishing journey, that extra burden also translates into more creative control, right? (How's that for sugarcoating the act of painting myself into an indie author corner?)

Meanwhile, that coveted midway point awaits.

Keep you posted.
