Engwe Engine Pro Review After 400 Miles: Does it hold up?
I recently surpassed 400 miles riding the Engwe Engine Pro to and from work every day as well as some other trips.
How has it held up?
This review isn't going to be full of all the specs. They do a great job on their website describing the specs in detail. This is more about my experience with the bike so far.

About a month ago, I sold my car and bought this e-bike to save some money.
A friend of mine has the EP2-Pro and rides it as his daily commuter here in Omaha as well. That's where I first heard of this company.
Yes, Engwe is a Chinese company. Most people are concerned about quality and customer service. After talking to a few Engwe bike owners, their customer service seems to be very good. It's an incredibly inexpensive e-bike, but feels very good quality for the price.
It's not going to stand up against a $3,000+ bike probably (I don't know, because I've never been able to afford one of those).

The battery life of the Engwe Engine Pro has been more than sufficient for a daily commute. Even with a lot of hills, the range is probably close to 30 miles on top settings.
I've only run it down to 0% one time on purpose to see how far it could go... okay actually it was because I forgot to charge it. But silver lining was that I finally got to see the mileage to 0%. It was a little over 30 miles, but that was also with a little bit of regenerative pedaling down a few hills.
ENGWE ENGINE PRO TOP SPEED
How fast does the Engwe Engine Pro go? Fairly fast for a bike. Just on the cusp of being illegal in many places. The top speed in the US version is 30mph, but going down a hill or unlocking the bike may get your closer to 40mph.
I've maxed mine out at 37mph and didn't choose to unlock it. I have another friend who also has an EP-2. They unlocked their e-bike and it goes at least up to 40mph and could probably go more-- but I'm not sure it would hold up at much faster speeds.
What is the difference between Engwe EP-2 Pro vs. Engwe Engine Pro?
Both the Engwe EP-2 Pro and the Engwe Engine Pro are great e-bikes for the price. The EP-2 Pro will be about $500 cheaper in the US. You'll also be able to score $300 off if you buy two of them. One for you and one for your partner who will definitely want to steal your bike all the time if you don't get them one.
Aside from the price, the big difference between the EP-2 Pro and Engine Pro is in the suspension and breaking. The Engine Pro has both front and rear suspension while the EP-2 Pro only has front suspension.
The Engine Pro has hydraulic brakes while the EP-2 has pad brakes.
The Engine Pro also has a slightly higher top speed but lower estimated range.
The differences between the Engine Pro and EP-2 Bikes:Engine Pro boasts Hydraulic Disc Brakes.Engine Pro enjoys front fork hydraulic shock absorption, while EP-2 Pro only has front fork spring shock absorption.Engine Pro also has a rear shock absorber.Engine Pro supports passive recharge, while EP-2 Pro doesn't.Engine Pro sports a beefier back seat.Engine Pro features a color display.
WHAT ACCESSORIES DO YOU NEED WITH ENGWE ENGINE PRO?
Here are some essential Engwe Engine Pro accessories:Mirrors (You'll likely end up on the road and they're essential)Helmet (duh)High Quality Phone MountHeavy Duty Anti-Theft Bicycle U LockRain Resistant Bike Rack BagWaterproof Rain Cover
These are just a few of the essential e-bike accessories I've found to be very valuable.
The Engwe Engine Pro is not waterproof. It is water resistant. That means if you're going to leave it sitting in the rain, you'll need the waterproof rain cover.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THE ENGWE ENGINE PRO TO A FRIEND?
That's a resounding YES!
I really do love the Engwe Engine Pro. It's an absolute delight to ride. I feel grateful every day to no longer have to sit in traffic. Now, for a very affordable price, I'm able to glide through the tree covered bike trails with barely any effort (except when I turn off the motor and petal this 85 pound bike old-fashioned style).
It's a lot of fun off-roads too. I can't wait to give it a spin during the winter.
