A Child’s Question
Why does your bellybutton have a hood?
I smile with my answer.
To protect the fairy who lives inside.
Is that why you have dust and dirt inside?
Yes, the fairy cleans weekly and gives it to the dust bunnies.
And those wrinkles?
Oh, I say. My belly stretches with laughter and joy.
Will mine do that too?
I look at my grandchildren’s bellies. Hmm.
You must exercise your heart and mind until the muscles respond.
