Nice post although I would say that even if we don't produce truly intelligent machines, if they look and act like they are (maybe even hunting us down given appropriate orders) would it really matter?

It would make them what's known as philosophical zombies (mimicking consciousness without actually having any consciousness). The danger of AI is (a) it's grossly overstated and not intelligent at all and (b) its main purpose at the moment seems to be to circumvent creativity, allowing companies to monetize its supposed "intelligence" while cutting humans out of the equation. If you look at the current SAG-AFRA strike by writers and actors, they're striking over what is essentially less than one percent of the profits made by Netflix, Disney, etc. So why are Netflix and Disney playing hardball? Why not negotiate with people who, on average, earn $20,000 a year when the CEO of Disney Bob Iger earns $20,000+ A DAY??? It's because they see AI as a means to control the future and not pay for any creativity. Honestly, the people AI should be replacing are the Bob Igers of this world. He adds NOTHING to the company and takes home more than twenty million dollars. I have NO DOUBT that AI could do a far better job than him. AIs could replace ALL CEOs everywhere—be far more pragmatic—and cost almost nothing. This is where AI should go!
