I'm a really big fan of both the books and HBO TV show but, after watching the first few episodes of the 2nd series, I'm not sure if it's as good as the first.
Perhaps it's missing the presence of Sean Bean as an imperious Lord Stark or maybe it's just that Martin's books are simply too complex for the tv narrative to handle.
And the books get more complex as they progress- it'll be interesting to see how they handle the 4th one where Martin splits the narrative and takes one set of characters to a certain point in time and then goes back and does the same with another group.
Still, really like all those 'King of the North' chants and the way they use the character's accents to emphasise the North/South divide is great.
I read somewhere that Martin used the War of the Roses as a template for the plot and if that's the case then it works a treat- the red rose/white rose conflict comes alive again in 2012 only this time I hope the white one wins!
