Both a bit bushed …

A fortnight has just shot by. We met up with my old school pals (Nick, and his wife Chris) on Sunday. We’ve known them since before any of us were married, so it was great to catch up after an absence of close to 8 years. Nick made a telling point: we need to make the most of our last 20 summers. How true. We’re with Mary at the moment who’s been under the weather and, I know she won’t mind me saying this, we need to make the most of our time left on the planet.

For me it’s been about work. I have to say it’s been a privilege – and, other than the stress of getting things done and the early mornings, it’s been a scream. I do miss working with people and, where I can, making a difference. But, we have things to do.

I met with a book marketing lady on Tuesday. I have to do this. She was fab and made all the right noises and, as you know, I’m rubbish at marketing (but PLEASE BUY MY BOOKS!). I’ve set aside £1700 over three months to see if I can up the sales – currently about 20 a month – to something ten times that, with further organic growth. To be clear, to make £600 a month I need to sell about 300 books a month, or 10 books a day, which was always my target. I’m happy not to make any money at all, frankly, although I would like to break even.

Anyhow, she starts on 1 September, so we’ll see how that goes.

Along those lines, our Jen has now finished all the book covers (thanks Jen), and so we’re set for the off. I’m very excited … whilst I hope to be over-occupied writing book nine in the Sam Green series. I have a bit of a plot in mind and it’s going to be very different. Let’s see what happens.

And we’re off to Spain, a little later than we thought. We have some stuff to do the week after next and then we want to spend a few a few days with Mary before we go. And then … Somebody asked me where in Spain we were going. And I said ‘Spain’. ‘No, but where?’ ‘Spain’, was my answer again. And that’s the best we can do at the moment. Neither of us can wait.

I think that’s it from me. We are both a bit bushed. But happy.
