The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 was a cold war confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, which escalated into an international crisis when American deployments of missiles in Italy and Turkey were matched by deployments of Soviet ballistic missiles in Cuba. The confrontation was resolved when the Soviets agreed to dismantle their offensive weapons in Cuba in exchange for a US agreement to not invade Cuba again. Secretly, the United States also agreed to dismantle all of the nuclear missiles deployed to Turkey against the Soviet Union.
