The Lack of Situational Awareness

The other day I dropped off a letter at a local Post Office, got back in my car, and looked for the best way out of the parking lot. The best way was to circle around the small parking area and then head for an exit. I backed out of the parking space I was in and started the loop.

As I neared the last of the parking spaces, I needed to stop for a pedestrian to cross to a parked car. I was about to take my foot off the brake pedal when I noticed another person walking across the parking lot, seemingly to join the person I had just stopped for.
