"Loophole - Or How To Rob A Bank" by Robert Pollock
Just finished reading "Loophole - Or How To Rob A Bank" by Robert Pollock, released by Fawcett Crest Books back in 1975.
I probably saw "Loophole - Or How To Rob A Bank" in the new fiction arrival section of Michelle's Book Store in the Brwyn Mar Shopping Center in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and I discovered among the shelves of the general fiction section of Chamblin's Book Mine here in Jacksonville, Florida. On a curious note, there was no bookstore stamp on the first page like there usually is for Chamblin's and other used bookstores.
"Loophole - Or How To Rob A Bank" was eventually filmed as "The Persuader."
A "caper" novel, "Loophole" finds master safe-cracker Mike Daniels contemplating one last score, but he can't just recruit the usual professionals this time around for the bank he wants to rob. If Daniels is going to be successful he's going to need the help of someone who is a skilled both as an architect and civil engineer - preferably just one person. He finds his mark in Stephen Booker, who fits the bill and who was just unceremoniously dismissed by his job as a cost cutting measure. Booker's life is falling apart. He can't find a new job, his marriage and family life is falling apart, and he's barely scrapping by making ends meet by driving a taxi and the dole - unemployment since this is a British crime caper novel.
So when Daniels first tries to recruit him for his caper, Booker resists but finally gives in to the temptation of restoring his life and family back to when he was working.
But despite all their careful planning, Daniels, Booker, and the team soon find that not everything goes as expected.
GREAT FUN!
FIVE STARS!
