Do you misquote, misread or mis-attribute on social media?

I’ve mentioned before that two thirds ofmy clients are aged over 50. They like the fact that I have many years ofbusiness acumen, and we enjoy a good number of shared references,  comparable music tastes and similar points ofview.

The UK’s Grande Dame of Acting, JudiDench, is older than any of my current clients, but she popped up on my socialmedia today, which is why I’m mentioning her in this blog.

I love this quote; one of my Facebookfriends posted it, although I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it before. Yet… Althoughin today’s Facebook feed it’s attributed to Dame Judi, it was actually writtenby Donna Ashworth, a Sunday Times author and poet.

It’s a fact of life now that anythingposted on social media can easily be misquoted, misread or mis-attributed, soit’s important to ensure anything you post is correctly referenced if it’s fromany source other than your own creativity.

This is not intended to be business advice, but it’s excellent marketing guidance for anyone taking stock of themselves.

“Don’t prioritise your looks my friend, as they won’t last the journey.
Your sense of humour though, will only get better with age.
Your intuition will grow and expand like a majestic cloak of wisdom.
Your ability to choose your battles will be fine-tuned to perfection.
Your capacity for stillness, for living in the moment, will blossom.
Your desire to live each and every moment will transcend all other wants.
Your instinct for knowing what (and who) is worth your time, will grow and flourish like ivy on a castle wall.
Don’t prioritise your looks my friend, they will change forevermore, that pursuit is one of much sadness and disappointment.
Prioritise the uniqueness that makes you you, and the invisible magnet that draws in other like-minded souls to dance in your orbit.
These are the things which will only get better.”

Intuition, choice, instinct, prioritisingand invisible magnets – all factors that are relevant in a good social mediastrategy. All things that will help you to be better.

And, as a side issue, when I’m asked toreview someone’s social media profiles – particularly LinkedIn, the first thingI comment on is their photo. “Don’t prioritise your looks?” Well, in this case,do! Choose an image that is current, engaging, in focus, business-like (not abeach or pub snap) – one that shows personality.

If you’d like to chat about your onlineprofile – or, indeed, any other aspect of your social media marketing, feelfree to get in touch. A Power Hour session is usually £100, but if you’re over50 you can claim a 50 minute session for just £50.

Get in touch today, as the offer onlystands until the end of July.
