Sims 4 Legacy Challenge, Part 3: Now I Need Therapy (Kinda)

(For those who missed part 2, here it is: https://corinnejet.wordpress.com/2023/06/20/sims-4-legacy-challenge-part-2-thom-pulls-a-ned-fulmer/)

This is Part 3 of my Sims 4 Legacy Challenge. I highly recommend going back and reading part one, if you are new here, but the basics of this challenge are that I play a single family in the Sims, and create a matriarch. This matriarch starts with no money and an empty lot and has to build a house that will support ten whole generations of Sims, and then make a legacy that will last after her death.

Sims 4 Legacy of Rose Perry, Part 3: Now I Need Therapy (Kinda)

Last time I promised to tell you the story of how, during my first ever playthrough, there was a snafu where I had to re-download Rose. Well, that’s because she DIED!

Rose and Thom, during my first playthrough, were living together after I deleted and restarted Thom to get rid of his toddler daughter, and had decided to elope rather than have a traditional wedding. After they exchanged vows, they slept together for the first time, and Rose went off to the kitchen. While standing in front of the fridge deciding what to eat, she took out a book from her inventory and started to read. I clicked the camera over to Thom for a minute, but then only seconds later, Thom had a “very sad” mood icon that said “Death of a close significant other,” and Rose had vanished from the kitchen and from the icons at the bottom of the screen where you control your Sims. There was an urn on the floor that said “RIP Rose Perry” and the book she’d been reading was now on the floor next to the urn. I couldn’t get Thom to put the book away because he thought it was haunted!

After a lot of Googling, I was still kinda pissed. The only cause of death I could possibly find was “death by emotional trauma” where you Sim gets so hysterical that they just have a heart attack, I guess? But I thought there would at least be a little popup notification that said “Rose has died!” The Sims game also has the Grim Reaper, who visits a dying Sim and other Sims in the house can “plead for the life,” etc. But I hadn’t gotten a notification, the Grim Reaper had never come by, nothing! And as far as I could remember, Rose was definitely not hysterical. She’d had a “very happy” mood, yes, but not “hysterical.”

I went and re-downloaded her from the gallery, cheated hers and Thom’s relationship back, but still was pissed. To this day, I still am not happy about that.

Anyway, let’s get right into the Legacy Challenge!

In part 2, Rose and Thom were worried about their Legacy because Magnolia, while being a firstborn daughter, had yet to inherit the Bookworm trait. Had they gone through all that trouble and sacrifice just to see their Legacy die before it even started? To ensure an heir, they had decided to try to have another girl, just in case Magnolia did not become a Bookworm, but Magnolia seemed to have developed a hobby of spying on her parents so they couldn’t have another baby.

That is, until one random Wednesday when Magnolia was at school and Rose and Thom both happened to have a few hours off work together. They were able to have enough time to themselves to get Rose pregnant, and by the time the weekend came around and they got to their AirBnB, Rose was nearly ready to pop.

Thom, Magnolia, and Rose walk into their AirBnB for the first time. Rose is in her third trimester with a giant belly.Rose and Thom were both worried about Rose going into labor during the vacation, but they’d had a home birth with Magnolia and decided to do another home birth with baby #2. It was also Magnolia’s birthday right after they got back, and they were both determined to let this be a weekend where she gets her parents all to herself before the baby comes.A giant green house with a sprawling yard, pool, and backyard observatory and jungle gymThis rental unit is an original build of mine. I at first wanted to make a giant 7-story house just to see how expensive I could make it, but then found out that the Sims limits you to 4 stories or less. Then I got bored with it while building and decided to just make it “the most expensive one-story house possible.” Well, after finishing, it valued at almost 300,000 Simoleons and I despaired of ever getting any Sim family rich enough to afford it. So I changed it to “rental” so at least my Sim family could pretend to live in it for a few days. xDInterior of the rental propertyA closer look at the inside. We’ve got a sunflower-themed kitchen/dining room, a purple-themed recreation room, a sunset-themed bedroom, a green bathroom, a starry night-themed library, a pink living room, and a blue marble master bedroom with a walk-in closet and en suite bathroom.Thom playing a Tetris-style game on the VR system while Rose watches himThere were so many activities to try at this AirBnB that the family didn’t really leave the property. At home, Thom and Rose live a very low-tech lifestyle (despite Rose being a web designer), but here they had a motion-gaming rig for Thom to try virtual reality video gaming!

It was a nice, relaxing vacation. Except for one thing: the owner of this AirBnB had forgotten to install a door in the master bedroom. Meaning that the bedroom and its en suite bathroom were inaccessible the entire trip! (Yes, I did try going into build mode to edit the property, but it wouldn’t let me while the family was staying there). So the three of them had to share one bathroom, Rose and Thom slept in the bed originally meant for Magnolia, and they ordered a cot for Magnolia to sleep in the living room.

In the living room, Rose and Thom have set up a cot for Magnolia to sleep.Thom left a not-so-nice review on AirBnB: “The property was fantastic and the rec room alone made it worth the price tag, but the master bedroom didn’t have a door and so we only had one bed and one bathroom the whole time!” Response from the owner: “Very sorry about that, that was definitely a mistake during construction. Please contact me for a full refund and a discount on your next stay.”

Rose managed to stay pregnant the entire vacation, meaning that their original goal, Magnolia getting her parents all to herself for one weekend, was a great success. They returned home on Monday with big smiles on their faces ready to welcome a new baby to the family.

Thom and Rose cheer for Magnolia and wish her happy birthday. Rose's belly is very large in this shot. The baby was still cooking when Magnolia had her birthday Monday night.

And then it was time to choose Magnolia’s teenager trait. This time, it’d be bookworm for sure, right? Both her parents are bookworms, there’s no way she’d not get it… but she didn’t. Her teenage trait turned out to be “outgoing.”

Pretty much the day after Magnolia’s birthday, Rose went into labor. I was so anxious about whether or not it’d be another girl. What if it were a boy? He couldn’t inherit the Legacy, not with the rules I’d set!

Rose in labor in her bedroom standing in front of an empty bassinetThis time, I remembered to keep a close eye on the countdown. In the game, you get a handy little countdown timer that tells you how much time is left in labor, and when it got close to baby time, I made Rose go into the bedroom so the bassinet would appear where I wanted it to be.

And then I just waited, and waited, for Rose to finish being in labor. Finally, baby #2 had arrived!

Rose admiring her newborn babyAfter a long and painful labor, Rose finally meets her baby! Thom and Magnolia were both out of the house at the time so she had to labor all by herself.

It’s a girl! I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Now we had a higher chance of having an actual heir for gen 2. But neither of our girls had the bookworm trait, and we might need to keep having babies. And I might need therapy if I sink any more time into this game without getting a guaranteed heir for my family… xD

But for now, we needed a name for our new baby. I could have gone with some obvious choices like Willow or Daisy, but I decided to name her something a little more avant-garde. Her name is going to be Amaryllis Perry, or Ryll for short.

Thom meeting his daughter Ryll for the first timeRose introduces Thom to his new daughter, Ryll, when he gets home from work.Magnolia's bedroom with a new adult-sized purple bed, a standup mirror, and a purple dresserMagnolia had to get a new bed now that she was a teenager, and since she no longer uses her dollhouse, Rose put that in storage for Ryll for when the time comes. Magnolia also got a new bookshelf and a mirror for her room.Magnolia leaving for her first day of high school in a beige ruffly shirt and yellow shortsMagnolia heading out for her first day of high school. Note that I didn’t choose her outfit here, it was randomly generated when she aged up, but I love it; it’s super-cute!Rose feeding Ryll in her high chair and laughingRyll was definitely an easier baby than Magnolia, and she even inherited her mother’s red hair! Rose has started to feel more confident that one of her two daughters will inherit her Legacy.Thom putting baby Ryll down for a nap in the cribIt’s been so long since Magnolia aged up to a child and was able to feed and bathe herself and put herself to bed that Rose and Thom felt a little rusty doing it with another baby, but they quickly found their groove again.Thom feeding baby Ryll, and Ryll is wearing a white hat with a flower patternI love Ryll’s little hat here; this is her “swimming” outfit that her father put her in after a bath.

There’s really not much to say here. Magnolia’s going to high school and Ryll is an infant. I know that with Growing Together, they added more stuff for infants to do, but I don’t have that pack, so all I can really do with Ryll at this point besides feeding and bathing is put her down for a nap, put her on the floor so she can play with dolls, feed her baby food in her high chair, or walk around the house with her in my arms. So in the version of the game I have right now, I’m basically allowed to age up infants as soon as they eat all fourteen of the baby foods the game has available.

Here they’ve gone with a sunshine-yellow theme. Too bad the dollhouse doesn’t come in yellow (I checked).Magnolia as a teenager hanging out with toddler RyllWhen not busy with her homework, Magnolia pitched in to help take care of her little sister. SHE’D BETTER GET THAT BOOKWORM TRAIT BECAUSE SHE IS SO GOOD WITH KIDS SHE’D BE SUCH A GOOD MOM

In the 100 baby challenge (and in this challenge) you can age up your kids as soon as they get an A in school. In the case of aging up from teen to young adult, a teen must have one of their character traits in range to get the trait when they age up to adulthood (eg. they must have the “responsibility” value high enough to get the “responsibility” trait as an adult, etc.) The easiest one to raise is the responsibility value; it goes up if your child does well in school and does their homework, etc. So before I knew it, Magnolia had an A in school and was a responsible teenager ready to turn into a responsible adult.

Teen Magnolia blowing out the candles on her birthday cakeMagnolia blowing out her candles to become a full-fledged adult. What character trait will she get?

In addition to getting the “Responsible” value, I then had to go back to the Trait generator one last time to get her final trait. I put in her parents’ traits: bookworm, loyal, cheerful, bookworm, goofball, family-oriented. It also allows you to put in any traits that were previously generated so it doesn’t give you the same one again. After all was said and done, I got Magnolia’s adult trait…

MAGNOLIA IS A BOOKWORM!! REPEAT, MAGNOLIA IS A BOOKWORM!!!! SHE IS NOW THE HEIR TO ROSE’S LEGACY!!! THE LEGACY CONTINUES!!!

(Note: the aspiration it generated for her is one that comes in an expansion pack I don’t own, so for all children generated with this generator, I used the trait it gave me, as long as I had access to it, and then re-rolled for the aspiration. This already happened once before when Magnolia was a teen and it gave me an aspiration she didn’t have so I just rolled for aspiration again)

In the next post, we’ll start preparing for Magnolia to birth the next set of kids. To be continued, Tuesday July 4th, at this same time! Make sure to hit that “follow” button so you don’t miss it!
