For some reason, teaching has always had more than a few gay people. Gay teachers weren't out of the closet until recently, but we all knew they were there. It was that same old don't ask don't tell point of view. I remember several as a kid, including nuns in Catholic schools. It seemed to be predominantly gay women, but I could be wrong about that.
