10-Page Website: 4 Million Visitors and $5000 Per Month

Published June 9, 2023 by Niall Doherty
Joseph Maxim tweets…
My first ever #buildinpublic project I launched on @ProductHunt 4 years ago now gets 45M/year impressions on Google and brings in $5k MRR from display ads. Don’t need to be #1.. Just keep shipping.
Looks like the site is FixMySpeakers.com.
It’s a simple 10-page website with one clever feature: press the button on the homepage to play a sound that “plays a specific tone that generates sound waves which causes the water to be ejected.”
You know, after you’ve dropped your phone in the toilet or something
The site is filled out with a few simple blog posts, with titles like…
How to clean your phone and other devicesHow to clean your AirPodsHow to make Spotify sound louderJoseph launched the site on ProductHunt in February 2019
Then in April 2019 he tweeted…
Guys I did it! 100k+ page views in 2 months.
Asked how he did it, Joseph responded…
PH + reddit + lifehacker. I was never featured on [Hacker News] but i guess SEO plays a huge part. I got so much back links from other media sites and currently number one on keyword term “fix my speakers” on google search.
You can see a couple of his Reddit posts here and here
I’m guessing the site wasn’t covered in display ads when Joseph first posted about it on Reddit. Otherwise those posts likely would have been deleted by moderators.
(Oh, and he did eventually get the site featured on Hacker News, two years later.)
So it seems Joseph was able to get his little site to go somewhat viral via posts on Reddit and ProductHunt, which led to other media sites picking up the story and linking to the site.
4 years later the site has backlinks from ~1000 domains, including several very high-authority websites = amazing for SEO
Unsurprisingly, it’s still ranking #1 when you google “fix my speakers” in the USA
You could argue that Joseph got lucky here, but I think he’s a good example of someone making their own luck.
He has 4 other projects listed on his personal website, none of which seem to be as successful as FixMySpeakers, but it shows that he’s taking frequent shots on goal
And his newest project – HTML CSS Tools – looks like it has potential. It’s a collection of simple in-browser tools for frontend coders.
(A bit like RandomTools.io, which was earning $5000/month last I checked.)
To get lots of traffic flowing to that new site, Joseph will once again need to build backlinks. And it looks like he’s using the same playbook to accomplish that, with recent posts on Reddit and ProductHunt.
Note how there aren’t any display ads on HTML CSS Tools yet. I expect those will come later.
