I woke up this morning well aware of the terrible weight of previous. There's no escaping it, really: as much as we'd like to start a fresh canvas or despoil a new notebook and claim it as a line in the sand, the truth is that everything that is now is, in ways identifiable and otherwise, inevitably a function of what came before.
