Shadow is a fine allegory for evil because it is not a force that opposes light. In fact, without light, shadow would cease to exist, though darkness would prevail.
It may be a fine point, but shadow is not darkness. It is a contrast to light necessary to define form. This brings us to the question: Is evil an irredeemable void of darkness, or like shadow, a condition of light that can be illumined?
And for those recovering from an especially dogmatic religious indoctrination, who is Satin or Lucifer? Is he confined to hell or can he come and go as he pleases? Is the devil the CEO of hell or does he work for God? And why does God tolerate or even rely on the existence of evil, fear, and ignorance?
