“I think we could see an upheaval in this one”

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia finally meet on Saturday night in one of the biggest fights of the year.

Both boxers are in their prime, have excellent knockout ratios and are undefeated, making the Las Vegas fight a tantalizing matchup.

Davis and Garcia have 45 knockouts between them in their 51 fights

Davis has the advantage in experience, having previously won world titles in the super featherweight division, and he has knocked out all but two opponents he has faced.

But, Garcia is significantly taller, he’s known for his lightning-fast hands, and he packs a punch, too.

It has all the makings of a classic, with pride, unbeaten records and the whole purse at stake.

Going into the fight, Davis is the bookies favorite, but most fighters, trainers and promoters have this one much closer.

Jermall Charlo – Middleweight Champion

Without predicting if there will be a knockout, Charlo, the undefeated two-weight champion, says it’s Garcia’s.

He is so confident that he claims to have bet $10,000 on the outcome.

Tony Bellew – Former World Heavyweight Champion

“Both are great fighters and if they do well at what they do I think it will come down to who has the most on the night,” Bellew wrote in his column for DAZN.

“To me, this man is Davis and it’s just because he has so much power and I think he’s going to land a huge blow at some point in the fight.

“Garcia will start fast, and I expect him to be up front when the fight goes into the final rounds, but Davis will be patient and when he finds Garcia’s target, I think that will be enough to end a fight. memorable encounter.. I can’t wait.

Roy Jones Jr – Former four-weight world champion

“First of all I tip my hat to both fighters for putting up a fight like this in times like this, they don’t care about their 0, they care about what the fans want to see and I applaud them,” Jones Jr told iD. Boxing.

“Tank has a lot more tools than people realize and Garcia is a much better fighter than people realize.

“Garcia was let go by [Luke Campbell]who is not a bad fighter either, but if [Campbell] can drop it then we know Tank can drop it.

“But, how much punishment will Tank endure before he drops it, so the point is who can put their game plan into action first.

“If Garcia can get comfortable boxing Tank and keeping him on the outside, then Garcia can win the fight.

“If he gets comfortable and relaxes and runs out of engine towards the end of the fight, Tank knows how to become a dog and start taking you down.

“If he gets to that point without too much damage, he can get to Garcia, so it’s a go-to fight.”

Joe Joyce – Olympic silver medalist and heavyweight competitor

“I choose ‘Tank’ because I think he’s very patient when he fights and he’s looking to land that big shot,” Joyce told talkSPORT.

“While Ryan Garcia, he’s the fastest hitter and he’s going to pepper him, but I think Tank will be patient and wait to nail him with something.

“I think it’s a 50/50 fight and it will be great to watch, but I think Gervonta Davis is cutting edge for me.”

Eddie Hearn – Boxing Promoter

At first, Hearn tipped Tank on The DAZN Boxing Show, saying, “He’s gonna get punched against Ryan Garcia, right? Ryan Garcia is very long, he has very fast hands.

“Where he [Davis] struggled a bit against Hector Garcia with the range.

“Well, Ryan Garcia has even more range than Hector Garcia, and he hits harder.

“I’m giving Ryan Garcia a chance in this fight, there’s no doubt about that. But if you ask me who wins, I say ‘Tank’ Davis.

Later, however, in an interview with ESNEWS, Hearn backtracked on his prediction, saying, “I’m a huge ‘Tank’ Davis fan. I really consider him a fighter… He’s a special fighter.

“The problem is that Ryan’s resume is pretty weak overall…and ‘Tank,’ I think, has been in tougher fights against better opposition on the bigger stages.

“But, the one thing I will say is that I’m quite surprised that people in boxing who know them well are giving Ryan a fantastic chance in the fight. People like Devin [Haney] and Shakur [Stevenson] – they rate Ryan Garcia, so he’s obviously a terrific fighter.

“I will go with Ryan Garcia. I will change my choice.

Devin Haney – Undisputed Lightweight World Champion

Having fought both men in the past, Haney has additional insight into this fight and he predicted in an interview with iD Boxing: “Ryan has the height, the speed, the length and all that, but Tank has that IQ, that experience and this power. .

“The safe bet is Tank but you can’t sleep on Ryan, he can definitely punch, he’s shown that so we have to see.”

Bridges thinks Garcia's power is underestimated

Ebanie Bridges – IBF Bantamweight World Champion

“It’s very hard to predict and it’s the one we all need to see because it’s 50/50,” Bridges told talkSPORT.

“I have a feeling Ryan Garcia could win. I really believe he underestimated the power.

“We all know ‘Tank’ has power, he’s a tank, but I think Ryan Garcia’s power can be understated and I don’t know how lightly ‘Tank’ takes it.

“Garcia is also very fast and it’s a very exciting fight, so I’m going to say Ryan Garcia won it, but a lot of people may take issue with me saying that.”

Amir Khan – Former Unified Super Lightweight World Champion

Khan warned Garcia to avoid power punches from Davis, as he told Fight Hub TV: “Ryan Garcia has to keep it long.

“And every time Tank tries to come in, he has to take a little step back – [those] inches are going to make a huge difference.

“Counter him every time. Throw hard punches at them. Every punch Ryan throws has to be hard and precise.

“He can’t let Tank choke him or get too close because that’s where he gets in trouble.

“Ryan needs to have strong legs, good feet, keep him long, keep him moving side to side…don’t let Tank get set up because once he sets up he’ll drop these big bombs. “

Josh Taylor – WBO Super Lightweight World Champion

“I see Tank winning that one,” Taylor said while speaking to Boxing Social. “I just think he has a better boxing brain, better boxing ability, more power, a cuter way of moving and a better boxing IQ.

“I don’t know if he stops Garcia, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did, but maybe I’ll go for Tank on points.”

Johnny Fisher – An undefeated heavyweight prospect

Fisher is really looking forward to this fight, as he told talkSPORT: “It was the one that kinda caught my eye, I think Ryan Garcia [will win]he has the speed.

“A lot of people say Garcia is a pretty boy, but just because you’re handsome or good-looking doesn’t mean you don’t have that grit.

“Maybe Gervonta Davis had that upbringing and he’s a bit tougher and tougher, but we’ll see overnight. I would like to see Ryan Garcia do it.

Freddie Roach – Former coach of Manny Pacquiao.

“I think I could see an upheaval in this one,” Roach told ProBoxTV News. “Davis is the puncher. But Garcia is a very good boxer, and a boxer against a puncher, you couldn’t ask for anything better. It should be a very good fight.

“Davis is sometimes a slow starter and it’s very important for Garcia to start early. Stick there, use his size and his box.

Shane Mosley – Former three-weight world champion

“I’m leaning towards Garcia because he’s bigger, not because I think he’s technically a better fighter,” Mosley told Sporting News.

“I believe he’s bigger and he has what it takes to be the biggest fighter. I think he can hit Tank with punches he’s never been hit with, and I think size, height, and speed are going to be an issue.
