Reading the book Warriors and Worriers by Joyce Benenson, I noticed the author consistently uses the word “enemy” to describe dangers boys face growing up. She points out that boys, unlike girls, are preoccupied with overcoming this “enemy”, as though boys were born with a natural hatred for The Other. But a better word to describe these enemies would have been: challenges.
