Ex-Secretary of Labor sums up the GOP with 1 chilling word

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich has warned of the Donald Trump-inspired GOP’s progression “to become America’s fascist party” to hold power in a new essay for The Guardian.

Reich, who served in President Bill Clinton’s administration, pitted the Democratic Party as “still largely committed to democracy” to the GOP as “steering toward authoritarianism at high speed.” OK, fascism.

As an example, the former Cabinet member cited the expulsion by Republican lawmakers in Tennessee this month of two House Democrats for joining protesters in calls for more gun control after a school shooting.

“We are witnessing the logical culmination of Trump’s win-at-all-costs Republican politics – scorched earth tactics used by Republicans to entrench their power, with no justification other than the fact that they cansaid Reich in the article titled “The Modern Republican Party is Rushing to Fascism.”

“Without two parties committed to democratic means to resolve differences of ends, the party committed to democracy is tactically at a disadvantage,” he warned. “If he wants to survive, he will also end up sacrificing democratic means for his own ends.”

“Donald Trump is not singularly responsible for this dangerous trend, but he has legitimized and encouraged the wickedness of the end that justifies the means that is now pushing the GOP to become America’s fascist party,” he concluded.
