Arnold Schwarzenegger mistakenly fills in a service trench he thought was a pothole

Actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger showed off his handyman skills on Tuesday when he posted a video of himself filling in what he said was a pothole that was wreaking havoc among neighborhood drivers from Brentwood to Los Angeles.
But the pothole was apparently not a pothole at all, but rather an authorized service trench created by the local gas utility.
Today, after the whole neighborhood was turned upside down by this giant pothole that’s been messing up cars and bikes for weeks, I went out with my team and fixed it. I always say, don’t complain, let’s do something. Here is. pic.twitter.com/aslhkUShvT

“This place is not a pothole,” a City of Los Angeles spokesperson told NBC Los Angeles. “This is a service trench that relates to active and authorized work being carried out on the site by SoCal Gas, which expects work to be completed by the end of May.”
“As is the case with similar projects impacting city streets, SoCal Gas will be required to repair the area upon completion,” the spokesperson said.
SoCalGas told the Los Angeles Time that his crews completed a pipeline upgrade in late January and “applied temporary paving to the excavation”.
While SoCalGas normally applies permanent paving within about 30 days of completing a project, the schedule has been delayed due to rain, according to the Time.
Schwarzenegger didn’t appear to buy the official explanation in a follow-up tweet Thursday from his chief of staff, Daniel Ketchell. “It’s always important to take bureaucratic mess control with a grain of salt,” he tweeted.
It’s always important to take bureaucratic mess control with a grain of salt. First, they implied @schwarzenegger paved over ongoing gas works that would be completed at the end of May. Then the truth came out: the gas work was done in January (and the paving time accelerated). pic.twitter.com/37jCGFx85L
