Here are my thoughts on why "the book is always better."
When we read a written description, we use our experiences to envision the scene in our minds. When the author writes, "the sunset was beautiful," we picture a beautiful sunset we saw, or imagine what we believe a beautiful sunset to look like. Is it pink? Yello? Over mountains, or setting on the sea? For each reader, it is different, custom-tailored to their preferences.
When we watch a movie or TV show, we see the director's vision of a "beautiful sunset," which probably does not match ours. Perhaps they chose to have the protagonist watching from the hood of their car, a scenario we can't relate to. Or, the sun peaks through the clouds, and we'd prefer it if the sky was clear. The scenarios are endless.
What we imagine always relates to our own experiences, and therefore seems more "real" to us.
What do you think? Is the book always better? Or is there a great adaptation of a movie/show that you think is better than the book?
