'The End' Has Arrived - Sort Of.
In late 2018 or early 2019, I started writing "Death at the Devil's Elbow", the next Barnesville Mystery. It usually takes about a year to get the first draft done then another six months of editing, proofreading, formatting, cover finalization, getting proofs & doing our best to proofread those.
Except in the case of "Death at the Devil's Elbow", life struck and slowed things down considerably. In July of that year, we had the motorcycle wreck which kept me from writing anything. In early 2020, it became so slow it went backwards when I lost half of what little I'd managed to write over the past year.
Then, of course, Covid came along and I didn't feel like writing anything Horror-related. I worked on Children's books instead, happy, fun stories with bright colorful pictures and positive messages. I worked on some twisted fairy tales and got "Not Your Grandma's Fairy Tales" out, a project that, believe it or not, started in 2005!
But finally, FINALLY, I'm happy to report that "Death at the Devil's Elbow" has reached a finished first draft stage this weekend. As the weeks go by, I'll start the proofreading process. And with ANY luck at all, maybe we'll have a finished project by fall. Four years is WAY too long to spend on something like this.
My brain feels such a HUGE relief at not having to think about what's going to happen next and making it all make sense! Instead, I can focus on what's in there that shouldn't be, cutting out scenes that maybe don't really matter, adding little details, & finding those cursed typos!
All your favorites will be back, Nell, Angie & Wes, Dave & Beth, and Detective Michaels are going to work hard to try and figure it all out.
While you wait, I'll be busy creating and posting monthly episodes of "Postcards from Barnesville" over on YouTube - FREE SHORT STORIES - and, of course, there's lots for you to look into reading.
There's also a 2nd book of Twisted Fairy Tales being worked on when, you know, I don't have anything else to do. LOL.
Sheesh. Looking at all that, I need a nap just thinking about it.
