I am often amazed how the present often reads like the past. Going through the Hayden Papers in the Bentley Historical Library I found articles and pictures of cocheros publicly protesting regulation in 1932, and the muse was a Queen of Cocheros who delivered an impassioned speech before the Manila City Council. King of the Road before the Jeepney Driver was the Cochero. Before we had jeeps we had calesas and carromatas.
