This is why I ignore all the justifications of sexual harassment that start with “Well, maybe he’s autistic and doesn’t understand boundaries! Did you think of that?!?!?”

Every autistic person I know: if you tell them, “This thing you are doing, it bugs me. Please stop.” …They stop. They apologize, and stop, and try very hard not to do the thing again.

Sometimes that’s difficult for them. Stimming is one person’s self-soothing and can be someone else’s extreme distraction. It can be hard to remember how far away to stand from someone while talking with them, especially in a noisy or crowded place. “Don’t smile at me” is especially rough (and imho unreasonable for someone to ask).

But “don’t put your hands on me” is EASY to remember. “Stay away from me” may make them sad, but it’s easy to do.

All those creepy predators who say they “don’t understand boundaries well” are liars.

Because they absolutely don’t violate those boundaries when it’s their manager or boss, or someone they’re asking for money, or anyone else who has the power to cause them problems.
