The Value of Asking "Why?"
Every language has a version of the word "why," and though I hear "why" every day, I rarely hear it used to its full potential. For example, Americans are comfortable asking why one chooses pizza over tacos, or coffee over tea, but we rarely ask why we must do certain things, believe certain things, or act a certain way.
Why is that? Before we can answer this, we must first define "why," because "why" is not just a question.
"Why" is the ultimate soldier for truth and a wrecking ball against falsehood. "Why" is a catalyst to new thoughts and ideas, a guide that leads to discovery and human destiny. It is the precursor to every good thing man has delivered and a spotlight on every evil he has conceived. Lies pale and shrivel when faced with "why."
And that is why the elites fear it so.
George Orwell once said that telling the truth is an act of rebellion in deeply deceitful times. Ergo, if "why" is truth’s guardian, then asking "why" is also an act of rebellion, or at the very least a precursor to it.
Let us consider the mask mandates as an example; during the COVID pandemic we ordered to mask up.
Why? What kind of masks should we use? Is the virus air or droplet borne? If airborne, how will a porous mask block the tiny free-floating molecules? Should children mask or just adults? If children must mask, then why- especially when the virus does not seem to affect children? What are the side effects of masking? Can we run a risk vs. benefit analysis before implementing such a policy?
Furthermore, when all was said and done, did the data show that this experiment-an experiment that came at great cost to civility and child development-was worth it? Did societies who masked fare better than those who did not? Or did all fare the same?
If these questions offend you dear reader, then you may have lost your "why." These questions about masks are not an attack on you or masks. They are questions. They are "whys" that deserve an answer. If masks do as claimed, then this will be discovered, and you have nothing to fear from them.
If not, then you will learn something, You will have an opportunity for humility and a chance at becoming a better person. Isn’t that what we are on this earth for? After all, we take nothing with us when we die but our character.
When Christ’s disciples were brought before the Jewish leadership for preaching, a wise Pharisee named Gamaliel spoke on their behalf:
“…In this present case, I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone. For if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail, but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” Acts 5:33-39.
Gamaliel valued "why." He could not judge the disciples' message with the data he had available, but he knew "why" would find the truth in time. Therefore, he proposed a long-term experiment, and today Christianity is the world’s largest religion.
Dear reader, I invite you to embrace "why." In celebration of this wonderful word and its meaning, I will be dedicating my next few blow posts to it. Fair warning, the "why’s" I ask will be difficult. They may even cause offense, but I believe this is a small price to pay for truth. I hope you agree.
Until next time, be blessed and infidel on.
