The first part is an appreciation of a nice display of a great picture book, Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History, by Vashti Harrison, in a beautiful setting, the Silvio Conte Nature Trail in Hadley, MA.
The second part is a querulous complaint about a similar but poorly done nature-trail-storybook display.
Our library has started displaying the pages of picture books outdoors on a regular basis. I'm sure the purpose is to have people read rather than buy, but I was moved to buy one at Christmas. I read the pages on my walk and kept going right to the town bookshop.
That's wonderful! Yes, the library in the town I grew up in has a picture book displayed that way outside on its grounds--but unfortunately moisture has gotten inside the display, so it's kind of hard to see the pictures: I think it must be hard to get this right? But it sounds like your library has. It's great that you encountered one you were moved to buy!
