An Invitation to the Rest You Crave
An Invitation to the Rest You Craveby Rick Warren
You get all kinds of invitations in life— to weddings, birthdays, graduations, etc. But none can compare to the invitation Jesus is offering you today.
He says: “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest” (Matthew 11:28-29 GNT).
You may feel a bit overwhelmed by life these days. I know I do sometimes. And that’s why I love hearing these words from our Savior.
The antidote to feeling overloaded in life is not a plan, a program, or a priority. It’s a person. Jesus says, “Come to me.” He doesn’t say come to a seminar, to a retreat, or even to church.
When you’re worn down and stressed out, the starting point for relief is Jesus.
In the Bible, people came to Jesus for many different reasons—seeking healing, needing wisdom, longing for hope. Maybe you’ve come to Jesus for similar reasons.
But today I invite you to come to Jesus to find rest. He offers you relief from guilt, worry, anxiety, fear—and all the negative thoughts that rob you of peace.
The things you typically do to relax and unwind may rest your body, but they will never provide rest for your soul. Only Jesus can give you the inner, restful peace that lightens your load and re-energizes your life.
