Citizen Journalists Break Through Media Blackout on Toxic Ohio Train Derailment

Social media users took to TikTok and other platforms to get attention on the devastating fallout caused when 50 train cars derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, causing noxious chemicals like vinyl chloride to spew into the region.

Below, hear on-the-ground witness testimony you won’t get from the mainstream media, and get the scoop from concerned residents taking deep dives on the story.

Listen to warnings for nearby areas concerning the toxic compounds that appear to be contaminating waterways and destroying wildlife and livestock after local governments ordered controlled burns of the chemicals – then gave the all-clear for people to return home.

One woman reported seeing hundreds of dead fish at the Leslie Run creek that runs through East Palestine.

Another video caught EnviroScience workers scooping out dead fish from an East Palestine river.

Taylor Holzer, a fox keeper who told WKBN foxes at his dairy farm located near a mandatory evacuation site was now exhibiting signs of illness, joined the Status Coup News podcast to further explain health issues he’s seeing in his animals.

On Monday, ten days after the initial train crash, the EPA revealed three more chemicals were discovered in addition to vinyl chloride: ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylhexyl acrylate and isobutylene – each of them carrying their own potential health hazards.

It remains to be seen whether anyone will be held accountable for the scores of health issues that are sure to follow as a result of the area being contaminated with the deluge of hazardous materials.
