Monarchy...

I think the reason why Britain refuses to abolish its monarchy is because then their government will have to answer for the countless historical crimes and atrocities committed against their former 'commonwealth' colonies, including India. With a criminal rap sheet that long, I imagine anyone would hide behind the crown, in whose name they committed those crimes.
Anyway, it's just a theory.
