Sometimes this series hits you with all the emotions, and other times it's just an excellent police procedural. IMHO this fits into the latter. I don't mind that, however I do miss the colourful side characters when they aren't there and the suspense was missing due to the lack of threat to any of those colourful side characters, new or old.
