Today I Started Work on a New Book

It's a crime novel to be exact. There's more hope than excitement at this juncture. I spent from 4-6 a.m. this morning outlining and brainstorming. Then I narrowed the project down to a title I'm happy enough with using right now. A working title, in other words.

I ginned up a list of female and male character names that I can live with for the next few weeks. None are duplicates or recurring characters, so this novel will have to be a stand alone. Then I typed up 1,500 words which took me through Chapters 1 and 2. Now I'll let that part set and settle for a bit. I'll probably use less back story in this book. That's my sense right now, subject to change.

The length is uncertain at this point. In fact, everything in flux is uncertain. Maybe next week I'll post another blog to discuss how the process is going. I don't like to look down the road too far. My current book I just finished took me 30 revision cycles to get to a happy place for me. So, it's a little intimidating to be too forward-thinking.

Happy reading to you!
