2022.
Voids, starfires and broken dreams, 2022.
I’m not going to go into great detail, but 2022 was only not the worst year of the pandemic for us because all of it was carried forward from 2021. Still dealing with the house crisis and my mom’s passing.
Work wise, I continued to write. My team and I put out eight books this year:
Admiral’s Oath, the first book in the Dakotan Confederacy trilogy, continuing in the Castle Federation Universe
Balefire, the dark fantasy novella
Beyond the Eyes of Mars, book 12 in the Starship’s Mage series
Huntress, book 5 in the Scattered Stars: Conviction series
Discretion, book 2 in the Scattered Stars: Evasion series
Remnant Faction, book 5 in the Peacekeepers of Sol series
To Stand Defiant, book 2 in the Dakotan Confederacy trilogy
Icebreaker, a fantasy/sci-fi standalone
We had two big experiments this year. The first was the Kickstarter for Nine Sailed Star, which went decently. We’ll be fulfilling that soonish (the Kickstarter update emails will have more information).
We’ve locked ourselves in to kick-starting books 2 and 3 of Aether Spheres, so I am going to hold off really assessing the experiment overall until the trilogy is done.
The other experiment was Icebreaker, standalone novel with a hybrid fantasy/SF aesthetic. It seems to have hit the spot nicely, given the perpetual demands for a sequel!
We also spent a few weeks in the UK visiting museum ships with Dr. Alexander Clarke of Naval History Live. That was a fascinating and educational trip that sent a few extra plot bunnies loose in my head.
Last but hardly least, I managed to accidentally go viral on Reddit with a photo of myself standing with a stack of all of my books. It’s a bit intimidating to see it all piled up like that!
There are a lot of personal moving pieces for 2023, but we are looking at having some of the big crises finally resolved. A lot of work ahead, which hopefully won’t impede writing too much, but resolutions are handy.
I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and has a happy new year!
Happy Reading
