In my neverending quest to complete the Grid, I had a little bit of time to squeeze in on a crisp October morning before I had to be back to work in the afternoon. Despite being a little achy in the ankle area, I wanted to see how fast I could do the hike.

I only ran into a few other people the entire morning. I started just after 10:45 to the tune of perfect skies and perfect foliage. The trail was a little leafier than I would have liked. The speed record of the trail is actually in the winter given how rocky and eroded it is. Coupled with the slick leaves, I wasn’t going to break any records.

But I did impress myself, topping out in 45 minutes on the dot from the bottom of the trail. The foliage wasn’t nearly as impressive as it was from the bottom of the trail, so I didn’t spend too much time dilly dallying.

It took me around 30 minutes to get back down. I thought I could do closer to 25, but you can only go so fast on big boulders with a bad ankle! But I felt pretty great all things considering, able to put full weight on my ankle and trust it, over 7 months later post injury.

Tecumseh is an ultra classic, but it’s even better to do midweek with few crowds. I highly recommend!
