There are a whole slew of unethical resellers on Amazon selling Exordium for sometimes as much as double the retail value, marked as “used”. These books are not actually used, but that marking means that I get zero royalties from the sale.

Oof, it would take more space that I'm allowed to type here to really get into it. I had an hour longer conversation about it with someone yesterday. The long and short of it is that these new AI art generators (and by the same token, the ones that write as well) are literally trawling the internet and stealing artwork to train the AI systems without any form of consent or compensation to the artists, most of whom have no idea their work has even been appropriated. And these systems can literally reproduce art styles; styles that real artists have taken years to hone and it's their livelihood. Writers, journalists, etc are realizing they've got the same problem on their hands with the new AI chatbots that are being fed text without consent/compensation. And right now there are zero rules or laws governing what's very quickly turning into a bad situation.
Bottom line ... until one or more of the artists band together to have the funds for a lawyer and start suing these thiefs... and WINNING ... it won't get the problem to go away, but I would think it would put a big sign up for others that are exploiting the work. Another problem is the attitude that if it's put on the internet, then it must be in the public domain.And I just thought of something else you can try:

Certainly worth looking into. I do know that Adult Entertainment companies go after people that steal their video and gallery content from within their pay site and then put it up on the web for people to look at for free. It can be quite effective. Worth looking into at least.
That's actually the problem with all this right now...there are no copyright laws that deal with this situation. The companies that have developed the AI are claiming that using the artwork/writing falls under the category of education (as in it's educating a computer program), therefore bypassing current copyright laws, including Creative Commons, as they now stand. And it's not like an individual stealing art and claiming it as their own...it's a computer entity that scans the net (and I don't mean certain places, it goes after any website with artwork from DA to Artstation to Google Image Search) and processes millions of images without batting a virtual eye. And once it's grabbed it to learn from, there's no taking it away; it's already learned that art and style. And DMCA notices don't work because there's no infringement going on...the systems aren't hosting any of this or keeping it; they're just learning from it. It's a incredibly complicated situation.There are actually quite a few lawsuits and class actions in the works right now, both here and in Europe. The federal government is also starting to get involved.

Ok, I'm going to go read the instructions that came with the Instant Pot my wife got me so I can hopefully make some spareribs for New Year's Eve. None of us go out ... it's amateur night and safest to stay in... so we fix up some good finger foods and then promptly fall asleep ... usually before midnight!
