Man in the Water

Man in the Water by Jon Hill, 2021, conspiracy thriller

This story has plenty going on with twists and turns. Jack Green is a conspiracy theorist who is nicknamed Jerry after the Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts “Conspiracy Theory” story. If you liked that movie, you’ll love this book. He is married to Stacey Green, and they have a son, Joseph, 4. Normal family, right?

Stacey has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and her mother, Viki, is paying for a two-week cruise so she and Jack can spend quality time together before she receives treatment. Jack teases his son and wife and makes plenty of references to movies and conspiracy theories. If you’re a fan, you’ll love the name dropping.

While on the cruise, Jack is awakened in the middle of the night and thrown overboard. Someone sees him fall into the ocean, and he is rescued. Only Stacey is missing with a suicide note left behind. Jack realizes the cruise ship isn’t going to investigate further and returns home only to find Joseph and Viki missing. What more can go wrong? Plenty.

For someone who doesn’t know much about conspiracy theories, this is a beginner tutorial with how to create a problem that causes a reaction for a solution that is the real agenda. Add on a false flag and you may be looking behind your back, too.

This is the first in a series of books so if you become hooked, you’ll have more stories to read.
