Book Review: The Judge’s List by John Grisham
Published in 2021. Thriller. Over twenty years ago, Jeri Crosby’s father was murdered after her retired as a law professor. Since then, she’s been searching for the killer. Her father’s body was found outside his retirement home in South Carolina, with a skull fracture and a rope around his neck. It didn’t seem to be a lynching, even though the man was black. The marine-type nylon rope was but thirty inches long and tied with a distinctive double clove hitch knot.
The police found no other leads, and the case went cold. Jeri and her brother attempted to find the murderer, but her brother gave up. Jeri continued her research, hoping to find a clue. When she did, she found more. She took her information to the police, but nothing happened. The murders were in different states, and the police found nothing to go on. Although frustrated, Jeri continued her efforts and had an idea who the killer was, but not enough evidence to arrest the man, a judge in Florida. Until she found the Board of Judicial Conduct in Florida. She pleads with Lacy Stoltz to take a look at the case. At first, she refuses and refers her to the local police. But when her boss leaves, Lacy takes the case on if for no more reason than to shut Jeri up.
An excellent read. I was interested from the start and couldn’t hardly put this down. I rooted for Jeri and Lacy to work together to solve this crime. And they did.
