He brushed his hand across her cheek, tracing along a strand of hair that’d stuck there as if caught in jam from her sweets. Lovely. Her skin went hot under his touch from equal parts yearning and mortification. He swept gritty crumbs away. Nooo. She’d been scolding him like a prim nanny with food on her face and sticky hair. The blush raged. She braced for the teasing insult that must be coming. But it didn’t.
“I’m going to kiss you.” He said it as though it was an absolute certainty, as if she’d willed this probability into coming true with a wish.
“All right.” Oh my goodness, had she actually agreed? Out loud? Hexes and vexes, how else could she act like a simpleton in front of this man?
“How very proper. I feel like royalty is granting permission.”
“Get on with it.” She snapped her mouth shut. Embarrassment battled with desire.
“John,” he said. “If you’re going to tell me off in that dare-me-to-screw-you-dirty accent, you should know my name.”
“Just John?” Her mouth had obviously stopped communicating with her brain. Because what she’d meant to do was bite that deliciously filthy comment off his lips.
“You have enough titles and names for both of us. John will do.” He swept his lips across hers, teasing and tasting.
