BASEBALL!??So, with summer gone, I have to recap the dumbest fun thing I did.
A few weeks ago I agreed to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game even though I HAVEN'T THROWN A BALL SINCE 1981.
My entire baseball experience is Yeeeeears ago, true baseball fans Joe Quesada and Matt Fraction took me to a Phillies game and- and I treated it like a Food Channel show. ‘Oh, the hot dogs!’ They were so annoyed.
So I’m not known for my baseball anything.
Mostly to delight Matt and Joe, my wife, kids, and literally ANYone else who ever met me, I said yes to throwing out the pitch at the Hillsboro hops Marvel themed evening. In front of people. A lot of people.
Why did they ask me? Honestly, I think my name comes up alphabetically if you google ‘Portland Marvel writer.’ If Jason Aaron lived in town, I’m shit out of luck. But they did call and I said yes… for all the wrong reasons.
Also, I’M A FIFTY FIVE YEAR OLD JEW WHO HASN'T THROWN A BASEBALL FOR ANY REASON WHAT SO EVER SINCE 1981! Also, anyone who grew up with the infamous Howard Stern bababooey pitch saga knows how bad these things can go.
But life is about experience and I clearly wanted this one.
My friends started sending me ‘how to pitch’ youtube videos. A neighbor came over to help me.
I even found a marvel baseball jersey gifted to me by joe and Nancy quesada well over 20 FUCKING YEARS AGO. I never had it on my body till this day. Fit great!

My 9 year old son never stopped chuckling at the sight of me in this and I realized, to him, it was like I was walking around in an astronaut’s space suit.
(I literally got like ten offers to buy this jersey right off of me right there.)
In front of my wife and children, I took to the field.
I could barely see in the sun.
I got it over the plate. No one got hurt. I didn’t accidentally bean the guy dressed as Thor.
And I finally got the words I have waited decade for :)

All this AND I get to write comic books all day.
So when I say, I am FILLED with gratitude to you, I hope this proves it.
