October 3, 2022: The Horror Marathon continues with the good, the bad, and the average!

Animal Humanos (2020)

A couple and their young daughter live in terror of the neighbor’s dog. After the child is bitter, the dog is put down – much to the dismay of its owners.

Thoughts: Clunky, cliche-ridden, and occasionally ridiculous. Ham-fistedly drives home its point.

Sleep Tight (2011)

Apartment concierge Cesar is a miserable person who believes he was born without the ability to be happy. His self-appointed task is to make life hell for everyone around him, a mission in which he has great success.

Thoughts: An unnerving thriller that stretches credulity to the breaking point before snapping back to its suspenseful and haunting conclusion. Recommended to me by my concierge. Not sure how I feel about that.

The Boy Behind the Door (2020)

Bobby and his friend Kevin are kidnapped and taken to a strange house in the middle of nowhere, but Bobby manages to escape. Hearing Kevin’s screams for help, he realizes he can’t leave his friend behind.

Thoughts: Suspenseful but fairly one note, its influences are obvious but its interpretations don’t really add anything new to the conversation. One of those movies that makes you question the logic of of its characters enroute to a highly fortuitous ending.
